Sky Sports News understands that Phil Thompson will not hold a role as an assistant manager Gerard Houllier potential Aston Villa.

A former boss of Liverpool Houllier is set to take over at Villa Park Club's new Manager after the departure of Martin O'Neill o' this summer.
