Houllier ready to accept work Villa

Gerard HoullierHoullier managed Liverpool during six years until 2004 head former Liverpool and Lyon Gerard Houllier is set to be appointed as new manager of Aston Villa on Wednesday, BBC Sport understands.

The 63-year-old was interviewed for the job, together with the interim Chief Kevin MacDonald and former head of Charlton and West Ham Alan Curbishley, last week.

Houllier shall speak to employees of the French Football Federation before leaving his role as Chief Technical Officer.

But it is unclear who Houllier appoints as his assistant at Villa Park.

Former Liverpool Defender Phil Thompson, man of Houllier during his time at Anfield, is a contender, while McDonald's is also in operation.

President of the French Football Federation Fernando Duchaussoy said that he will speak of Houllier when he returns Euro 2012 qualifier of France against Bosnia-Herzegovina in Sarajevo, on Tuesday.

"Will find Wednesday to take stock of the situation with him, I'll ask him," said Duchaussoy. "I would like to continue working with it ".

MacDonald had been responsible in Villa Park since shock resignation of Martin O'Neill in August and "have been the first choice of players to take on a permanent basis.
