Southampton withdraw Adkins offer

Nigel AdkinsAdkins joined Scunthorpe as a physiotherapist in 1996 Southampton withdrew its offer the boss Scunthorpe Nigel Adkins to become his new Manager, according to iron President Steve Wharton.

Wharton, said: "they gave him an ultimatum to resign from his position as Scunthorpe United manager.

"He wasn't prepared to do so until that had been agreed a package of compensation."

Adkins and Assistant Andy Crosby were expected to join Holy, but the Club League One denied that any ultimatum was given to the head of iron.

Statement on the site of Southampton, said: "contrary to what some highly misleading comments published this morning, the Club has not made any ultimatums, made no approaches without proper permissions and is fully aware that adequate compensation payments shall become due where candidate managers are currently under contract.

"The Club was totally professional and will continue to do so".

Adkins has been training in Scunthorpe as usual on Thursday, in preparation for your FIFA confrontation with Hertha BSC Berlin on Saturday.

The 45-year-old took in Glanford Park in 2006 after the departure of Brian laws to Sheffield Wednesday after a decade as a physiotherapist in the Club.

He was expected to replace Alan Pardew, who was fired from his Office in August.

Pardew was appointed as head of Saints in July 2009, but was dismissed from his paper only three games in the current season.

Southampton are 18th in League one having started out as favourites to win the Championship.

Adkins became Manager of caretaker Scunthorpe in November 2006 before being appointed in full-time position a month later.

He commanded the iron for promotion of the Championship in 2007 and again in 2009, following his demotion in 2008.
