England face crunch under-21 Championship qualifier

After 1-0 victory last Friday about Portugal, England hope to be one of four runner-up Group passed that would put them in play-offs.

They have 15 points from seven games and a current goal difference of over five, which could be a decisive factor.

Arsenal's Jack Wilshere should begin have been in banco de Portugal.

"The starting point is to win the game and after this with the greatest possible margin, then we're in the lap of the gods", explained Pearce.

"It shows how difficult qualifying for this tournament is. we might have a situation where we won the game comfortably and still isn't good enough to send us in play-offs".

Wilshere, who made his senior international debut as a substitute late last month friendly at Wembley against Hungary, was was left with the Banco de Portugal with Pearce suggesting the average 18-year-old "had his eye off the ball" after he was arrested and bailed following an evening ructions in Kensington.

"We just don't felt was right to start it in Portugal," Pearce said. "He was exchanging phone calls with the agent and one or two other people in the newspaper articles that have been happening.

"Since then, we think that their focus has been much better.

"It is difficult for a young, there are a lot of pressure on young players at the best of times; it is my job to read these situations, the best I can."
