Di National Stadium Bukit Jalil, Selasa (10/7/2007), Malaysia dibungkam 5-1.Tim Negeri Tirai Bambu menunjukkan keunggulan kualitasnya dari Malaysia. Mulai dari penguasaan bola hingga peluang yang dimiliki, finalis Piala Asia 2004 itu unggul jauh.
Hasil ini membuat Cina memimpin Grup C dengan nilai tiga. Sementara dua negara lain yang berada di grup sama Uzbekistan dan Iran baru akan bertanding besok.
Kemenangan Cina ini cukup istimewa, karena menjadi satu-satunya tim yang memberikan kekalahan kepada tuan rumah di pertandingan pertama. Sebelumnya Vietnam dan Indonesia meraih kemenangan kandang masing-masing atas Uni Emirat Arab dan Bahrain, sementara Thailand bermain imbang dengan Irak.
Kemenangan Cina di awali oleh gol Han Peng pada menit ke-15, memanfaatkan umpan lambung dari Dong Wang. Gol kedua terjadi di menit ke-36 lewat Shao Jiayi yang berdiri bebas di depan gawang, menyelesaikan umpan lambung Zheng Zi. Kedudukan 2-0 bertahan sampai akhir babak pertama.
Wang Dong menambah keunggulan tim tamu saat babak kedua berjalan enam menit. Tendangan kerasnya membentur kaki pemain belakang Malaysia, sehingga mengubah arah bola dan mengecoh kiper Azizon Abdul Kadir. Lemahnya pemain belakang semakin terekspos pada menit ke-55 kembali oleh Han Peng.
Gol Indra Putra lewat tendangan keras dari luar kotak penalti di menit ke-74 sempat membangkitkan semangat Malaysia. Namun para pemain Cina tetap tenang. Gempuran lawan yang memang kurang terorganisir, bisa diantisipasi dengan tenang. Justru menjelang akhir pertandingan, Wang Dong berhasil menambah gol dan melengkapi kemenangan Cina menjadi 5-1.
