Olofinjana enjoys his first goal for 10 months against his parent clubSeyi Olofinjana's first-half strike against his parent club guided Cardiff City to a win over Hull as the Welshmen continued their unbeaten league start.

His close-range header from a Peter Whittingham cross broke the deadlock for the Championship high-fliers.

A Gavin Rae strike sealed a comfortable win as Hull, whose only triumph this term was on the opening day, suffered their 27th away game without victory.

Substitute Rae poked in Aaron Wildig's cute reverse pass from 10 yards.

Cardiff were without injured attacking trio Craig Bellamy, Michael Chopra and Jay Bothroyd but showed they were not missing a clinical edge as they opened the scoring in the 20th minute.

Olofinjana, on loan to Cardiff from Hull, beat covering defender Anthony Gerrard, coincidentally on loan to Hull from Cardiff, to Whittingham's teasing in-swinging, right-wing free-kick.

And the Nigeria international headed his first goal for 10 months past helpless Hull goalkeeper Matt Duke from close range.

Hull responded positively and, after a misplaced Stephen McPhail pass, Richard Garcia forced a nervy save from David Marshall as the Cardiff keeper pushed a low 20-yard strike wide.

And just after McPhail went close, Kevin McNaughton almost doubled the home side's lead six minutes after their opener.

But, after skipping past two challenges, the right-back was denied his first goal for 18 months by Duke's outstretched hand, nudging the 20-yard shot onto his right-hand post and to safety.

Cardiff's depleted frontline was led by Ireland international Andy Keogh and, making his first start for almost 12 months, the on-loan Wolverhampton Wanderers man went close with a shot just after the break in a game played at a leisurely pace.

And Jones' injury-hit squad took another blow on the hour as goal-scorer Olofinjana was forced to leave the field with a thigh problem while Adam Pearson threw on two strikers in a bid to rescue a point.

And the two substitutes almost combined to level for the Tigers as Mark Cullen fed Jay Simpson but as the former Arsenal forward sneaked into the box, he was sandwiched by Cardiff defensive duo Mark Hudson and Gabor Gyepes and the danger was snuffed out.

Pearson admits 'losing mentality' away

Jason Koumas twice went close before Rae's first goal in more than a year sealed a comfortable victory.

Whittingham fed substitute Wildig and the young substitute's beautiful reverse pass found Rae, who had broken into the box, and the Scottish midfielder poked the ball past Duke.

As Cardiff enjoyed their third consecutive clean sheet and fourth successive league win, struggling Hull, without an away win since March 2009, failed to really test the Cardiff keeper and lacked any bite or guile against streetwise opposition.
